My wigs were all synthetic being that they are easier to care for.
I have also heard that human hair wigs are hotter on your head, that is a major downside to wigs generally.
One downside is that I could not use heat styling ols on them. You see, all the best with chemo!!!! I know that the synthetic styles keep the shape and style better than the human hair wigs. Let me tell you something. Less washing, and stuff like real hair. I’d look for a wig shop in your area and go try both. Of course I didn’t style them much, To be honest I just chose short styles that I could brush, shape and go, with the intention to be honest though. Which caused her to lose all her hair, as a child Sara battled nephroblastoma. Basically, it’s the inside that matters, This experience stuck with her and she wanted young girlsgoing through hair loss to realize that it was not what’s on the outside that makes you beautiful.
I was inspired by this article about Clare Bowen from the show Nashville who recently cut off her long beautiful hair.
Losing your hair forces you to confront problems of self esteem and work on yourself from the inside out.
I’ve been aiming to write another post about hair loss for some time. Anyway, one quote from this article that really hit home for me wasSelf esteem takes a lot longer to grow back than hair. Furthermore, wig shopping is a process and I don’t seek for you to go in blind. Before you go shopping, do your research. On p of that, make an appointment at a wig salon and go in with an open mind, when you’ve done your research. Maybe you love that short sassy dark red look or the long blonde curls. I have organized the most important information into six categories and I hope you find it helpful. Now pay attention please. Own it and your confidence will radiate. It is your chance to have a brand new persona and let a brand new side of you shine through. Trying on multiple wigs gonna be fun and it will give you a chance to see yourself in a brand new light.
Now on to wigs, that I have found to be so fun!
Don’t rule out any styles until you give them a try.
Go and leave the hair loose around the ears to hide the edge of the wig. I’m sure that the thing is, they won’t make you look exactly like you did before chemo since you’ve changed and you’ll see yourself differently, the wigs these days are amazing and they look like real hair. Besides, I have found my two short wigs to be my favorites, I never thought I liked short hair on my face shape. So, my biggest suggestion when picking a wig is NOT to pick one that looks like your hair was before chemotherapy. Anyways, I used this trick when I was in a friend’s wedding and wanted to match the other girls’ updos.
Another plus to the shorter styles is they get less tangled and are cooler to wear.
One way to cool down and minimize tangling is to pull the long wiginto a low bun or twist.
I had long brownish hair prior to chemo and every time I put on that long brownish wig, I’m quite sure I find myself saddened and frustrated striving to make the wig look like my old hair. You can easily try out that hairstyle or color you never had the guts to try before. That’s right! The long wigs can be hot and get very tangled. I found it was easier to embrace the new me in a really new look rather than try to wear a cut color that mimicked the old me. I did that with my first wig and I rarely wear it. This is where it starts getting really intriguing. They are usually blown away to learn that they are not my natural hair.
Highlights all the way.
Highlights or Monotone?
Choosing a wig with highlights make it appear more real and add dimension to your look. Look for a wig with highlights I’d say in case you look for the wig to look natural. I have had so many people compliment me when I am wearing my wigs. I can not stress this enough! Therefore, this chemo thing is no joke, I’m quite sure I apologize for the delay in posting. It’s difficult to find the time or the energy to write and all I seem to look for to do is sleep.I guess that’s just cancer sometimes you just don’t have energy for anythingelse but survival and I am learning to accept that.
I am doing best in order to keep some semblance of my normal life and I am still working full scale aside from chemo and recovery days. I am constantly exhausted and it seems that life never slows down. Actually the wigs that appear more flat tend to be thinner and are harder to style and amp up. They are easier to style and look more natural I believe. It is overall I love the volumized wigs being that you have more hair to work with, sometimes this volume is that gives the look of volume.
Flat or Volume. Some synthetic wigs are created with premade volume. Last thing you need is a wig so thin, your bald head shows through the wefts. They don’t work all year round but winter and fall they’re great. Consequently, another option is to get hats with hair, or wigs, attached to them. Now this site sells some really great ones. Thank you very much for sharing the headscarf tutorials! We as women struggle with hair loss, as hair is tied to our identity, as I mentioned in my last post about hair. For those of you who seek for to go the head scarf route, By the way I would suggest you first check with your cancer hospital resource center. I decided to own this experience and take it as an opportunity to add a completely new look to my repertoire. Another place to look is thrift stores. They have not been my go to resource, To be honest I still occasionally wear head scarves for comfort and warmth.
For awesome scarf tying tutorials take a look at YouTube, specifically this channel by Zukreat.
I need to shed light on the majority of other resources available for those of you that haven’t worked up the courage to go bald yet or just don’t like that look on yourself, as much as I’ve been working on my ‘self confidence’ and rocking the bald head at times.
I received ns of beautiful scarves from mine. Being forced to change your appearance can make you feel like a victim. Did you hear about something like that before? I know it’s our armor and protection from the world. Because check the tags to be sure they are washable. They have a slew of beautiful gently used scarves. Hair is an ol for quickly changing our appearance to stay current with the recent fashion trends and it helps us fit in. Ok, and now one of the most important parts. While beautiful make me feel like I’m screaming I HAVE CANCER, hats, and head scarves. 85 of the time, To be honest I want to pass. Losing your hair can make you feel naked and exposed. I don’t seek for strangers to know I have cancer and I don’t need to draw attention to myself in that way. The big problem I have found with these wigs is that there’s no hair to blend with the lace so the spot where the hairs attach to the lace seems to stand out more on my skin.
