Wig shopping is a process and I don’t look for you to go in blind. Before you go shopping, do your research.
I have organized the most important information into six categories and I hope you find it helpful.
Make an appointment at a wig salon and go in with an open mind, right after you’ve done your research. On p of that, trying on multiple wigs might be fun and it will give you a chance to see yourself in a brand new light. Maybe you love that short sassy dark red look or the long blonde curls. That’s your chance to cover a tally new persona and let a tally new side of you shine through. Own it and your confidence will radiate. Eventually, my wigs were all synthetic being that they are easier to care for. One downside is that I could not use heat styling ols on them. I’d look for a wig shop in your area and go try both. Basically, I didn’t style them much, I’m almost sure I just chose short styles that I could brush, shape and go, with the intention to be honest though.
Good luck with chemo!!!!
I have also heard that human hair wigs are hotter on your head, that is a major downside to wigs actually.
Less washing, etcetera like real hair. It’s a well the synthetic styles keep the shape and style better than the human hair wigs. Generally, I did that with my first wig and I rarely wear it. On p of this, I found it was easier to embrace the new me in a really new look rather than try to wear a cut color that mimicked the old me. I’m sure you heard about this. Please do not rule out any styles until you give them a try. Known one way to cool down and minimize tangling is to pull the long wiginto a low bun or twist. You can easily try out that hairstyle or color you never had the guts to try before. Now on to wigs, that I have found to be so fun! I actually have found my two short wigs to be my favorites, By the way I never thought I liked short hair on my face shape.
I’m sure that the long wigs can be hot and get very tangled.
Hurry up and leave the hair loose around the ears to hide the edge of the wig.
I used this trick when I was in a friend’s wedding and wanted to match the other girls’ updos. Accordingly the thing is, they won’t make you look exactly like you did before chemo being that you’ve changed and you’ll see yourself differently, the wigs these days are amazing and they look like real hair. Anyways, another plus to the shorter styles is they get less tangled and are cooler to wear. Fact, I had long brownish hair prior to chemo and every time I put on that long brownish wig, To be honest I find myself saddened and frustrated striving to make the wig look like my old hair. My biggest suggestion when picking a wig is NOT to pick one that looks like your hair was before chemotherapy. Choosing a wig with highlights make it appear more real and add dimension to your look.
I can not stress this enough!
Highlights all the way.
Look for a wig with highlights So in case you need the wig to look natural. They are usually blown away to learn that they are not my natural hair. However, highlights or Monotone? I have had so many people compliment me when I am wearing my wigs.
Of course, the last thing you need is a wig so thin, your bald head shows through the wefts. They have loads of poof to them, that gives the look of volume. As a result, flat or Volume. Some synthetic wigs are created with pre made volume. Wigs that appear more flat tend to be thinner and are harder to style and amp up. They are easier to style and look more natural I think. Overall I love the volumized wigs as you have more hair to work with, sometimes this volume is very much for sharing the headscarf tutorials!
